Where the light stops on a form

Each round hands you two spheres with the sun already declared, and you start by drawing the terminator: the line at a right angle to the light arrow, where the light stops. Only its direction is read, so a wobbly stroke costs nothing and a lifted pen can carry the line on. Then three dots go where they belong: the core-shadow band, the bounce light off the floor, and the contact shadow under the ball. Sphere one is side-lit; sphere two swings round to three-quarter or behind.

The sun is a real 3D vector — a direction on the sheet plus a tilt out of it, shown in the plan view — and every answer derives from it: the terminator is the great circle 90° from the light, the core shadow is the band 22° beyond it, and the shadow on the floor is the sphere's own outline pushed along the sun direction. That tilt fattens the ellipse, swings the core off centre and stretches the shadow. Read that and shadow shapes stop being guesswork: the terminator is geometry, not mood, and its axis never depends on the tilt, so once it is found the rest hangs off it.

What each of the four marks is worth

Only placement is judged; rendering never counts. Each angle gets a grace band before a linear falloff, so 100 is reachable, and the band is eased for the hardware the HUD names — 3° on a pen, 4.5° on a finger, 6° on a mouse or trackpad — while the ramps stay identical everywhere, because what is measured is knowing where the light is, not steadiness. The terminator carries 0.4 of a sphere's score, the core 0.25, the contact shadow 0.2 and the bounce 0.15; a round is the mean of the two, and the line above the sheet names the weakest mark. None of that is a model's judgement: every target is derived from the light vector by geometry, using the two drawing conventions this drill fixes in advance — the core band 22° past the terminator, the contact pool 0.22 of a radius down-light.
